Cherry Blossoms at UW Quad
Cherry blossoms at UW Quad
It is easter and the annual cherry blossom festival is back at the University of Washington Quadrangle. UW Quad is the best place to view and enjoy the cherry blossoms in the Seattle area. There is even a website dedicated to inform the public when to go see the blossoms.
Since 1939 these cherry blossom (染井吉野 Somei Yoshino) trees have been in Seattle. Yoshino trees are a hybrid and although the flowers are beautiful, the fruits are tart and sour and not suitable for human consumption.
The Quadrangle is the most well known landmark at the University of Washington. Every cherry blossom season draws visitors from all around.
After seeing the blossoms, don’t miss the Harry Potter / Harvard style Suzzallo library. Suzzallo library is the central library of UW and is gothic style. It first opened in 1963.
Tip:
You can park anywhere on the Campus
if coming by link light rail, get off at the University Of Washington Station and the Quad is 15 min walk away
Make sure to monitor the status of the blossoms before leaving
